In response to requests for improved accessibility for All Saints and First United members, the following changes have occurred:
Parking: The two parking spaces adjacent to our existing permanent accessible parking spaces on Madison Avenue will become temporary accessible parking spaces on Sundays. These spaces will be blocked off as of 7:30 am on Sunday mornings. At 10:30 am, they will be reopened with a designation for persons with a handicap parking permit only. This will ensure that members of First United have accessible parking available to them.
Seating in the Sanctuary: There is an increasing need to accommodate persons requiring the use of a walker or wheelchair. For this reason, the following changes will be made to seating in the Sanctuary. One pew at the back will be shortened to accommodate a wheelchair or walker on both the centre aisle and exit side (toward the elevator). Another pew, opposite the current shortened pew) mid-way down the seating, will be shortened to accommodate a walker or
wheelchair more centrally. Two chairs on the right side of the seating will also be removed for this purpose. This will allow those requiring accessibility accommodation to choose where they are most comfortable sitting during services.
We understand that any changes can be disruptive. We also know we all want to ensure that everyone feels welcome in our worship space. We hope these small changes will help toward that goal. Please feel free to share any concerns with the clergy or council representatives, or the Joint Property Committee (Lamar at lamarmason4@gmail.com). All of these changes will be reviewed to ensure they are meeting our intended purposes.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
