On the first Friday of each month (not in July, August or September), the Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many sacred traditions of the world to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. Based on the work begun in the late 60s by Samuel L. Lewis, they promote peace and integration within individuals and groups worldwide. There are no performers or audience – new arrivals and old hands form the circle together. The Dances are meant to be a form of moving meditation, with a focus on attunement to the divine reality and respect for all of the various manifestations of this reality.

No experience is necessary to do the dances, and no dance partner is needed. The movements are not difficult and they are clearly explained each time by the dance leader. The only requirements are an open heart and an attitude of respect for others and reverence toward the traditions being honoured.
