First United Church invites you to join in an engaged discussion about our priority to be a more intergenerational faith community. Please register to attend one of the discussion group times listed below by clicking on the Register box, by calling 613-232-1016 or emailing office@firstunitedchurch.org.

Background: Key findings evolving from the 'Living Room Conversations' (i.e. congregational discussions held in 2018) pointed to a need for First United to be a more intergenerational church. One of the priorities First United committed to in 2021 was: re-engaging with our commitment to live into what it means to be an intergenerational church, recognizing that people of all ages are an important part of our community and have gifts to bring. In 2022, further thinking led to this definition: An intergenerational church has intentional interactions between all generations with the goals of promoting the spiritual development of all and helping to grow relationships across generations. It intentionally combines generations together in mutual serving, sharing, or learning within the core activities of the church.

The Intergenerational Committee is hosting these conversations now because: It is time to reflect on our successes and challenges in implementing this intergenerational priority. We want to hear about your needs and what might encourage you to get involved, participate and lead. Although we are a diverse and multi-generational congregation interested in a broad-range of activities, the challenges of the past 3 years have somewhat diminished volunteer enthusiasm.

What to expect:Conversations facilitated by a young adult and older adult, with a series of questions to help us better understand how you are engaging in our congregational life and with other generations, and how greater connections between generations can be developed. There are both in-person and virtual sessions to choose from.
